Idaho’s West Central Mountains are Fully Open to Ski and Ride

12/15/22

WEST CENTRAL MOUNTAINS, ID (Dec. 15, 2022)—Skiers and snowboarders are in for a winter treat this month, as Idaho’s premier powder playground is already thriving thanks to a snowy November and early December.

Tamarack Resort, near Donnelly, expects to have 100% of its terrain open by Saturday, Dec. 17 thanks to the abundant early-season snowpack. Brundage Mountain Resort, outside McCall, hit the 100% open mark on Friday, Dec. 9, and the Little Ski Hill, near McCall, will open on Saturday, Dec. 17. Additionally, six terrain parks are already open across the region—two at each ski area.

Together, these ski areas provide 3,045 acres and 5,125 vertical feet of downhill skiing and snowboarding, including 15 acres of night skiing at the Little Ski Hill.

The West Central Mountains are known for the quality of the snow and the frequency of storms delivering fresh powder. As of December 14, more than 10 feet (120+ inches) of snow has fallen at higher elevations across the region, making it possible for the ski areas to offer full access to the area’s expansive lift-served terrain.

“The snowfall feels more like mid-January or early February than our typical December conditions,” says Tamarack VP of Mountain Operations and Marketing Wolfe Ashcraft. “Powder lovers will be thrilled with the snow level and the opportunity to explore the incredible terrain.”

“Skiers and riders have a smorgasbord of experiences to choose from right now,” says Brundage Mountain Resort General Manager Ken Rider. “Whether you want to carve up some groomers, hit the parks or explore the powder, it’s all here for the taking.”

Brundage and Tamarack are partners of the 2022-23 Indy Pass, which features more than 120 ski areas across the U.S. This special collection of fiercely independent ski areas offers smaller crowds and authentic, welcoming atmospheres. The Indy Pass provides two days of access to each partner resort— more than 240 days of skiing or riding—for just $349.

“Idaho is home to seven incredible Indy resort partners that make the state a popular destination,” says Indy Pass Founder Doug Fish. “With Brundage and Tamarack offering world-class conditions and terrain just 20 miles apart, West Central Mountains are a great place to start, or end, a ski vacation you’ll remember for a lifetime!”

In addition to creating excellent downhill skiing and snowboarding conditions, the abundance of snowfall in the West Central Mountains provides an ideal setting for other outdoor activities, including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking and snowmobiling as well as snow tubing at McCall’s Activity Barn.

From Cascade, Donnelly and Tamarack to McCall and New Meadows, visitors will find a wide variety of charming restaurants, shops and unique boutiques. For family-friendly activities away from the slopes, head to McCall’s Manchester Ice and Event Center for ice bumper cars, ice skating, figure skating shows and hockey games.

Holiday visitors are encouraged to book lodging in advance. The McCall Area Chamber of Commerce also asks that visitors consider signing the McCall Promise, which offers lighthearted guidelines reminding people to be considerate, slow down and enjoy the holiday season by appreciating the uniqueness of the beautiful West Central Mountains.
