Reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:

Initiatives: 

  • Conducted a comprehensive Greenhouse Gas Inventory (GHGI) to identify key emissions sources, including transportation, building energy use, and operations. 
  • Explore renewable energy options to reduce reliance on electrical grid.
  • Work with our local community nonprofits and local tribes in support.
Increase Diversion of Waste from the Landfill:

Initiatives:

  • Enhance recycling initiatives through our partnership with Adams County by diverting cardboard, aluminum, and tin from the landfill.
  • Reduce single-use plastics to divert waste from landfills.
  • Installation of water filling stations to reduce plastic consumption and landfill space.
  • Partner with local and nonprofit organizations to donate and/or repurpose items from uniforms to equipment.
  • Providing water bottle filling stations to reduce single-use plastic bottles.
  • Introduced reusable RFID tickets to reduce waste. 
Conserve Water Resources:

  • Install water-saving technologies, such as low-flow toilets and sinks throughout our facilities.
  • Explore opportunities to recycle water in operations.
Energy Efficiency:

Initiatives:

  • Investigating on-site renewable energy options, including biochar and biomass wood energy systems.
  • Transitioned to energy-saving LED lighting throughout resort facilities. 
Leverage Our Voice for Good:

Initiatives:  

  • Provide education on sustainability goals and solicit input from staff.
  • Share knowledge with guests and the community to encourage sustainable behaviors. 

Steward our Ecosystem, Thoughtfully

Initiatives:

  • Continue protecting and restoring natural habitats while addressing environmental challenges.  
  • Certified as a Whitebark Pine Friendly Ski Area, actively participating in restoration and seed collection efforts for this vital keystone species. 
  • Maintain Whitebark Pine restoration, invasive species control, and replanting efforts.

Our GHGI revealed key insights

  • Transportation accounts for the largest emissions share, driven by employee commutes (accounting for approximate 63% of our total emissions) and guest vehicles. 
  • Building energy use and vehicle fleet operations also contribute significantly to our footprint. 
  • Emissions reduction strategies are focused on high-impact areas, including waste management, energy efficiency, and transportation.
