Brundage Proudly Breaks Ground on $8 Million Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant

08/13/26
Project Represents Major Sustainability Investment and Next Phase of Mountain Infrastructure Improvements

Brundage Mountain Resort officially broke ground on a new Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant this week, launching construction on one of the most advanced wastewater treatment systems in rural Idaho.

The $8 million project follows years of planning, engineering and coordination with the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality and represents a significant milestone in Brundage’s long-term infrastructure strategy.

The new 3,900 square foot facility will be tucked into a wooded area near the entrance to the resort. It will use membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology, an advanced treatment process that can produce exceptionally high quality, Class A treated water that can be re-used in multiple sustainable ways.

Once complete, the new treatment system will accommodate the wastewater needs of Brundage Mountain’s primary existing facilities and all newly constructed facilities and homes, eliminating the need for any additional septic systems to be built as part of future construction and development at the resort.

That future development is starting to take shape. The Northwoods neighborhood is expected to have 12 completed homes by the end of 2026, construction is underway on the 51-unit Norhaven neighborhood, and planning is in progress for additional base area facilities and Phase 2 of Brundage Mountain’s long-term resort development.

“This wastewater project is about stewardship and long-term responsibility,” said Bob Looper, President of Brundage Mountain Holdings. “We’re investing big in infrastructure before it’s needed because that’s the right thing to do for the mountain, our guests and future generations. This system supports our long-term sustainability goals while protecting the natural resources that define the Brundage experience.”

Brundage Mountain’s existing Large Soil Application System (LSAS) remains operational while the new treatment plant is built and brought online under a phased implementation plan developed in coordination with IDEQ. Construction on the Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant is expected to continue through September 2027.

The Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant is part of more than $36 million in infrastructure investments completed or underway at Brundage since 2021. Other investments include highly visible projects like the Mountain Adventure Center (MAC) and the new Centennial Express high-speed chairlift — along with less visible improvements like water and fire suppression systems, roads, power, fiber communication and the establishment of independent EMS and Fire Departments.
