The Secret Satisfaction of Spring Skiing

03/20/15

Friday of no particular interest 130206206It’s no secret that our ski season has fallen short when it comes to the powder days we’re so fond of here at Brundage. Most skiers and boarders yearn to experience soft, forgiving slopes that allow us to, albeit temporarily, suspend our belief in gravity and fully flow into a zone of unexplained, uncontained bliss. (If you’re into that kind of thing).

But we’ve been harboring a bit of a secret on our slopes this season. The secret is found not after a big, obvious dump of fresh cold-temperature powder, but surprisingly, after a string of warm sunny days and cold nights. We’re talking about perfectly-formed corn snow, like the kind we’ve been experiencing quite often this spring – including today.

Sure, it’s unlikely that this snow will gently envelop you up to your thighs or float up and dust your face.

But what it WILL do is create a magical moment between your edges and the slope.

Creating that same wonderful feeling of ‘floating’…and the confidence that for a few moments, you can simply do no wrong.

So if you’re feeling starved for the satisfaction that powder brings us, you may want to pursue this worthy substitute. Come chase down the last of the springtastic snow. After all, it’s probably going to be a long time until our next powder day, and this spring substitute will keep your love of the mountains strong all summer long.
