Scenes from the Summit

04/26/11

It’s not uncommon for us to watch a storm dump significantly more snow on the summit than in the base, and that’s especially true in the springtime.

The past 48 hours have brought 6″ to our base area, and 10″ to the top half of the mountain.

I wanted to share some photos snapped by our lift maintenance professionals today.

This time of year, we would expect to see signs of snow-melt from top to bottom.

But our weather has different ideas, this year. Instead of hints of brown dirt around the buildings, we still see several feet of snow piled up.

That’s fresh powder drifting in around the base of the Bird’s Nest yurt…

and the top terminal of the Blue Bird Quad.

Officially, we’ve got 138″ at the summit snow marker, and there are certainly many spots where it’s deeper.

Down in the base, we’re at 95 inches. That’s more snow than we normally have on the summit in mid-April, which is why we now plan to be open for Bonus Weekends through mid-MAY. Full details.

Just thought you’d enjoy a quick view from the summit, in case you were wondering how we’re weathering this so-called Spring.

More snow is expected Thursday and Thursday night, then, Partly Sunny skies for Saturday and Sunday. Check out the forecast. Spring weather is always unpredictable, but so far, it’s looking just right for an incredible Bonus Weekend!
