Powder Play

02/25/11

For the second day in a row we’re enjoying soft, fluffy, champagne powder.

With a fresh topping of 3″ of fluff overnight, our 10-12 inches from yesterday is still providing knee-deep thrills on most of the mountain.

Even the tracked-out spots like right under the lift line remain soft and forgiving.

That combination of conditions is bringing out the playful side in many of our visitors.

Whether you’re bouncing off a snow-covered tree or enjoying a little extra hang time, the snow seems to pillow your every move.

The physical experience of skiing powder is so beautiful, it’s easy to overlook some of the other beautiful results of our recent snow fall…the snow ghosts.

A back drop of blue really draws attention to their plump softness.

I’m always amazed at how many shades of blue you can find in the alpine sky.

I never tire of the warming effect of the morning alpenglow

Or the distant views of other powdery slopes…like those on Granite Mountain…

Or Sargeants Peak…

But, you can only stop and soak in the beauty of the trees for so long when the knee-deep champagne powder surrounding them is calling your name!

Luckily, there’s plenty of both to please everyone today!
