The Future Looks Bright (But Not TOO Bright)

12/02/16

December is here and that means we’re all counting the minutes until the start of ski season. At this very moment, we do not have enough snow to open the mountain. BUT, if you combine the snow that fell this week with the upcoming forecast AND favorable snow-making temps, we have a lot to be excited about.

To review: Four days of straight snowfall deposited 15″ in the base area this week.

That snow came in light and fluffy. It’s consolidated into about 10″ of snow at our lowest point – where you load the Bear Chair and Centennial lifts.

There’s closer to 14″ of settled snow sitting on the summit.

Our crews have spent the week pushing all that snow into strategically-chosen locations where it is being stockpiled for future use on loading ramps and lift mazes.

Today, a break in the storms, but fortunately, COLD overnight and morning temperatures to go with it.

That has allowed our snowmaking efforts to really make an impact. We’ve buffed up our Easy Street coverage.

We’ve also made a HUGE pile of snow at the base of Bear/Centennial. This is a first here at Brundage. We improved an existing well and installed a new pump house to be able to strategically target this area, which sits at 5,882 feet elevation.

It’s hard to tell from this picture, but this pile is over eight feet tall. We’ll smooth out this mechanically-subsidized snow to create a nice, safe loading area for these two lifts.

The other bright spot comes this weekend. Forecasters are telling us to expect snow all weekend long, with 7-14 inches possible from Saturday night into Monday morning.

After that, overnight temperatures will remain low enough for several nights of snowmaking, both here at at our Tubing Hill in McCall.

What does this all mean? If you’re serious about your love for skiing & riding, you should be throwing down some serious snow dances. Because the future is looking bright…but not so bright that this sunshine will be sticking around for long.
