The Perfect Storm?

02/02/14

020114019I’m not sure if it was the fresh snow, Diva Days or the spirit of Winter Carnival, but whatever forces came together yesterday brought us one of the most festive, fun days we can remember!

Let’s break it down:

The Snow

After a stretch of sunny days, (and foggy ones where many of our visitors live) you can’t discount the effect of 14 inches of fresh snow over a three day period.

We woke up with three fresh inches Saturday, which produced some amazing powderoy for those who hit the slopes for first chair.

There’s something special about gliding over a perfectly smooth slope without actually feeling it under your feet.

020114013

Cold temperatures kept that snow dry and manageable all day, to the delight of those who’d been waiting all week for their shot at some freshies.

The Goddess Factor

020114028

Diva Day always brings a heightened sense of energy to the mountain, and this year’s event was more divine than ever.

In addition to the popular lift-ticket discount and spa package giveaways & free chair massages from Spa Del Sol, we also raised hundreds of dollars for breast cancer awareness.

020114008

The signature color of the day was pink. It was hard to go anywhere without spotting a flash of fuchsia, a feather boa, a tutu or a pink mustache!

Another great addition to this year’s event: On Snow Yoga! By all accounts, this may be the first documented case of a yoga practice on snow.

One of our locals got his zen on in shorts and ski boots.

It was just the thing to get folks relaxed for the ever-lively Happy Hour in Smoky’s Bar & Grill.

Flat Out Fun

Between the spa package giveaways, live music from StoneSeed and quite a few football fans getting an early warm-up for SuperBowl Sunday, it was one of the most festive afternoons ever in Smoky’s Bar & Grill.

(Yes, those ARE bedazzled velvet sweat suits)

The Smoky’s shotski got quite a workout, too. (As well it should)

In case you’re feeling a little blue that you missed out, don’t despair.

Diva Day will return next season in its full fuchsia glory. Cheers!
