Isolation is just part of the deal. When you live in a small mountain town, it’s easy to feel cut off from the rest of the world. That’s something most of us just get used to, especially in the winter.

But this week, Brundage Mountain truly seems to be in a world of its own. The first day of Spring is less than a week away, most of the country is experiencing a colossal seasonal heat wave, and our neighbors in the Treasure Valley have been looking at clouds and a few raindrops this week.

But up here in our private mountain enclave, it’s been snowing for FOUR DAYS STRAIGHT now. It started Sunday, when temperatures took a sudden plunge and the snowflakes blew in.

By yesterday, the storm was raging. At one point, we got 7 inches of snow in about 4 hours. It was snowing and blowing all day, and then, another dramatic drop in temperature yesterday afternoon.

I know there are some doubters sitting at home (even in Long Valley, where the first half of this storm was SOGGY.) But I am here to tell you that this is POWDER we are skiing on today. Not the soft schmooey kind, the dry, fluffy, fly-up-in-your-face kind.

After 14 inches total yesterday, we got another three inches overnight. With temperatures ranging from 14 – 25 degrees this morning, that new topping of snow blended in with yesterday’s wind-driven excess to create some of the smoothest, softest, FLUFFIEST slopes we’ve seen all season.
