There’s no question our spring weather has been unusual this season.

And that’s creating some strange sites on the mountain. It’s not really unusual to see our resident fox carrying a critter around this time of year.

What is unusual? The amount of snow still on the slopes, AND the realization the critter is her baby!

After a hike across the snowfield, this mama fox was ready to let her offspring try to manage the spring snow on its own.

The baby quickly fell behind as our friendly ticket office manager, Rick, snapped these photos.

The little guy (or gal, we can’t be sure) got tripped up by the ‘snow boulders’.

But with a little more spring in its step, the newbie started to run free.

And like most of us who ski or snowboard, this beginner seemed more confident on the smooth snow surface than in the rough stuff.

We get a lot of cool animal sightings up here and enjoy sharing the photos with our blog readers. Especially when we see families forming right before our eyes!

Last summer, our Mountain Manager, Rob, snapped these photos of some baby bears up in a tree.

By now, these bears are 40 – 50 pounds larger than when these photos were taken. We’ll be keeping an eye out to see if they stayed in the area…just one more local family bringing up their kids here at Brundage Mountain!
