The Little Things of Spring
What are you looking for when you hit the slopes?
A lot of times we’re in rush to chase down the sweetest powder lines before someone else finds them…or to carve laps into the groomers at full tilt.
Today, I found a different groove. Maybe it was the comfortable temperatures, or the fact that the soft springy snow wasn’t getting any worse for the wear of other people’s tracks. Whatever the reason, I relaxed into a slower pace and opened my eyes a little wider today. It was amazing what I saw when I stopped looking for what I thought I wanted to find.
I always appreciate the gentle curve of graceful ski tracks on a slope.
And I was delighted to find snow still hanging on the trees, even in the middle of April.
The splash of color delivered by the bright green moss.
And the texture of the snow in the respite after the storm.
The play of the elements – built up by snow, sculpted by rain, highlighted by the rays of sunshine…
A voluptuous curve only mother nature can affect.
Or the way the sun dances off the soft surface.
A lovely reminder that skiers and snowboarders aren’t the only creatures leaving our tracks on the slopes…
And that the softness of nature isn’t the only place to find beauty.
The hard surfaces can have a charm and symmetry of their own
Or catch you by surprise when you see them in a new way
These may not be the first things you look for when you hit the slopes, but that certainly doesn’t mean they’re not worth finding.
