Riding High on the Ides of March
We’re riding high on 16 inches of fresh snow today! We got 6″ yesterday and the storm ‘outperformed’ its forecast and dumped another 10″ overnight last night.
It’s just what all powder hounds love to see first thing in the morning – a ridiculously huge amount of snow in the snow box. Winds were blasting last night as this storm rolled through, so finding the best lines was a bit of a challenge today.
So was clearing all that snow out of the way!
You have to hand it to our mountain crews. From the road to the parking lots to base area facilities, and of course, THE LIFTS, they worked up a sweat getting the upper hand on this ornery snow storm.
Luckily, once the mountain was open, there was a lot to choose from as our grooming crew left plenty of untracked snow out there on open slopes and the sides of groomed runs.
Big boards certainly helped when it came to floating on top of the snow. Between the overnight winds and snow consistency, this powder was definitely on the tricky side.
Still, a little exploring revealed some delicious turns.
Shakespeare warns us to “Beware the Ides of March”.
But today, those with strong legs and an adventurous spirit chose to ride the tide of the Ides instead.
