As part of Brundage Mountain’s ongoing wildfire mitigation efforts, our Mountain Operations team will be burning slash piles on the mountain starting Monday, October 24.

Yearly ski run maintenance 

Smoke may be visible in nearby recreation areas and from the nearby valleys as we carefully work through the piles of cut forest vegetation. There are 50-60 piles on the Payette National Forest land that Brundage operates on through a special use permit. An additional 45-50 piles are slated to be burned on the private land at the base of the mountain.

The fuels to be burned were generated through a number of forest health and firewise activities, including:

• • Routine ski run maintenance activities like our annual mowing/trimming efforts
  • Lift-line fuel clearing and maintenance for fire safety
  • Trimming and removal of trees and shrubs to create defensible space around structures
  • The Whitebark pine daylighting project that took place earlier this summer to help preserve an at-risk keystone species. Learn more about the Whitebark pine conservation efforts here.
