New Approach to Terrain Parks

01/19/09

terrain

If you were fortunate enough to visit Brundage Mountain for the sunny three-day weekend, you might have noticed a couple things that are different about our terrain parks this year. In addition to our rail park on Lower Rodeo (more on that later) we’ve built a “Fun Park” on Jammer to give skiers and riders of all levels a chance to try out some fun terrain features.

Because this park is located on the Bear Chair, we’ve designed it to be very beginner friendly. I paused in the Fun Park for about a half an hour Sunday, and observed countless families trying out the features together, without feeling intimidated by more advanced riders on the same run.

These small features, including a rail, rollers and spines are a great place to learn some basic terrain skills, whether from one of our instructors…

or from the old standby: practice, practice, practice.

Once you feel you’ve mastered these smaller features, you can check out our middle-sized features on Lower Rodeo.

terrain4

We’ve set up a variety of rails, this one is called “The Battleship”.

terrain5

As you can see, this one looks more like a traditional terrain park (if there is such a thing), with lots of energetic riders calling their drops and enjoying the show.

We plan to add features to this park and on Upper Rodeo as soon as we get enough new snow to build more.

We encourage everyone who uses either of our terrain parks to learn and observe the rules of Smart Style – listed here.

So whether you’re a terrain park veteran or just exploring your curiousity, there is a place for you at Brundage Mountain.  — April
