Powder Day!

12/22/08

Hey friends –

I wanted to give everyone a quick update on the slope conditions, and invite you to share your own thoughts on the experience here at Brundage Mountain. We started this blog to create an open forum for your questions, so you can help us deliver the experience you are looking for.

We had six inches of fresh powder to start the day, making for some really nice, smooth turns. We still have a little bit of brush showing on our powder runs, but if you treat them like gates, it can be really fun to ski.

As our snow base continues to get deeper and deeper, the groomed runs are holding their shape longer and longer. Today, they remained smooth well into the afternoon. Also, it looks like we may have finally gotten enough snow to groom Main Street for tomorrow. (Yay!) I have to be honest, though, I kind of enjoyed skiing Main today. The snow on the surface was soft, not crusty at all, and since it hasn’t been groomed, it’s skiing almost like a mogul run. Our frequent visitors know that we rarely get enough traffic on our ungroomed runs to create ‘bumps’, and if you keep those knees spongy, it’s a fun ride.

I still don’t recommend riding in the true ‘off-trail’ areas, like under the trees. The top snow is nice and forgiving, but we could use a bit more snow there to cover the obstacles. Hopefully the storm that’s in the forecast for Christmas Day will do the trick!
