Last weekend  we hosted our first-ever Winter Adventure Weekend in partnership with the Payette Children’s Forest.

It was a fun-filled and snowy day with lots of kiddos experiencing the snowy mountain environment in a new way!

Activities were tailored for certain age groups with a focus on education and enjoyment.

The Forest Service blew frozen bubbles with kids and Smokey Bear and Woodsy the Owl made a special appearance around the mountain.

The folks at Snowdon Wildlife Sanctuary shared lots of fun facts on local wildlife in the winter and the types of animal tracks we can see in McCall. Kids had fun seeing what their own tracks looked like as well!

Volunteers from the Boise Park and Recreation department provided engaging art activities for kids to do including bracelet making, crayon rubbing, and snow painting- which was definitely a kid favorite!

The field instructors from the McCall Outdoor Science School (MOSS) dug snow pits with kids and looked at snow crystals with video microscopes. The MOSS instructors also took a group of kids to the summit to investigate another snow pit at higher elevation, which was a highlight for all!

Later in the afternoon, 40 kids participated in our special “Learn to ski or snowboard” lesson, for only $19! The lesson was available for kids ages 6-17 and it sure looked like all these beginners were having a great time!
