Countdown to Summer!

Countdown to Summer!

06/11/12

What a pleasure to see sunshine and blue skies this morning after last week’s rainy, chilly weather. (Brrr!)

Here on the mountain, the foliage is blooming, the grass is turning green, and the snow melt is accelerating quickly.

That means we are on track to have most, if not ALL, of our mountain bike trails prepped and ready for our Grand Opening on Friday, June 29th.

This was the view from the main entrance to Brundage this morning (June 11). Just a little bit of snow left at the very top of the mountain…

Compare that to this shot from nearly a month ago (May 14), and you can clearly see the transformation from Winter to Summer and what nature can do in a few short weeks.

More importantly, this is a HUGE difference from last year, when we were looking at near-record Spring snowfall and a deep snowpack remaining on the upper mountain at this point.

Check out this blog post from the third week of June, 2011. We still had many patches of snow on the lower mountain and several FEET of snow on the upper mountain.

June 11, 2012 (Today)

Today, we are in the green zone and we’re confident that our mountain bike trails will be clear in time for our summer opening. We’ve even had a chance to do some ‘product testing’ on the Four-Cross Course we built last year.

We put the features in last Spring, but as seasoned mountain bikers know, new trails can improve dramatically after ‘wintering over’ for a season.

We’ll bring you some more highlights from the Four-Cross soon, as we continue to count down to the day when our Summer Chairlift Service begins Friday, June 29.
