That's More Like It!

01/16/12

It may be just a hint of what’s to come this week, but the 2+ inches of fresh snow we got this morning is already making a huge difference!

A short-lived storm dropped two inches in the base area in a matter of hours and a bit more on the top of the mountain.

Even that modest amount of snow made a world of difference up here!

The hard-packed groomers are now topped with a blanket of fluff, which instantly softened up most groomed slopes.

It was also enough to lure riders and sliders off-trail in search of some powdery turns.

I always enjoy watching people bomb the lift line while I ride up the Blue Bird Quad.

But not as much as I enjoy diving in between the trees myself and finding some soft, fluffy goodness under my skis. (That’s my ski buddy Jared in the photos, not me, in case you were confused.)

The entire scene looks a lot more like Winter with a dollop of fluffy white stuff.

It’s been too long since Ive seen a snow-stache like this.

And a soft new blanket of snow opens up a whole new world of terrain possibilities…

Today’s storm may be nothing compared to what we’ll see later this week. A Winter Storm Watch goes into effect tomorrow night. The forecasting specialists are telling us 10-20 inches are possible across our area, with up to 30 inches possible on our higher southern and western slopes.

When you combine that prospect with today’s kinder, gentler slope conditions, we can’t help but think, “That’s more like it!”.
