Brundage Mountain Welcomes Duke Grewe as Assistant General Manager

10/23/26

New position puts a dedicated focus on every step of the guest experience

Brundage Mountain Resort welcomes Duke Grewe as assistant general manager, a new position focused on helping skiers and riders make the most of every day on the mountain. Grewe brings 23 years of experience at four ski areas, most recently serving as director of rental and retail at Alta Ski Area.

For Grewe, making people feel at home at a ski area is a calling that started long before his first job.

Growing up in Logan, Utah, Grewe spent hundreds of hours riding alongside his father, a snowcat salesman and owner of the Intermountain region’s PistenBully dealership. Their travels took them to ski areas across Utah, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. Ski area families became their closest friends, and Beaver Mountain became Grewe’s home hill. He spent weekends there as a child and started working there at 15.

“Ski areas were the backdrop to most of my magical childhood and family memories,” says Grewe. “Most of my career has been spent trying to help other people have that same magical experience in the mountains with the people they love.”

His career has included roles at Beaver Mountain, Timberline Lodge and Brian Head Resort, along with three years as an assistant general manager at Cabela’s. He spent the past eight years at Alta before joining Brundage this October.

Making a Great Day Easier

At Brundage, Grewe will focus on the full guest journey, from planning a visit online to arriving at the mountain and getting out on the snow. The new position creates a dedicated focus on how those experiences fit together and how teams across the resort can help each guest have the best day possible.

“We created this position to keep our focus on every step of the guest journey and help every skier and rider have the best day possible at Brundage. Duke understands how much the little things matter, and he shares our commitment to taking care of the people and mountain that make this place special,” says Brundage Mountain General Manager Ken Rider.

Grewe describes his approach in two words: “Authentically Easy.”

“I want to do everything I can to make sure the hurdles you face as a guest—from the first time you click on the website to the moment you are standing on top of Bluebird taking in that breathtaking view—are as few as possible,” says Grewe.

That work also means preserving the qualities that drew him to Brundage.

“I love ski areas with a rich history and independent spirit,” he says. “The character and charm of a resort is an important part of the ski experience for me.”

For guests, he sees that character coming through in everyday interactions: a friendly greeting, an employee who learns your name, shared excitement over first chair and opportunities to connect with the mountain’s history.

Looking After What Makes Brundage Special

Working at ski areas with more than 60 years of history has shaped Grewe’s sense of responsibility to the mountains and the people who love them.

“I wasn’t the first one here and I won’t be the last, but I have a duty to make sure I leave this special place better than I found it and set up to keep delivering amazing memories to guests,” he says.

He brings that perspective to Brundage alongside an enthusiasm that has stayed with him since his rental shop days.

“My teammates need to know I’m a ski bum at heart,” says Grewe. “I work in the mountains because I want to spend time on the mountain, and that 15-year-old rental shop kid is still in there and amazed that we’ve made the ride last this long.”

Grewe and his wife, Betsy, have moved to McCall with their sons, Henry, 12, and Owen, 10, and dogs, Murphy and Sally. Awa

y from skiing, he enjoys fly fishing, golfing, Dr Pepper and remaining loyal to the Chicago Cubs.

“We moved to McCall because we wanted life to slow down,” says Grewe. “Days on the lake and on the mountain in a community where you can know everyone’s name is a dream come true.”
