It's Kind of a Big Deal

02/19/15

Sunshinecollegerace2-19-15 175012Here at Brundage Mountain, we’re thrilled to be able to host the USCSA Collegiate Western Regionals for the second year in a row. Both this season and last, we were approached to host the event after the original site ran into trouble with its snow base.

Sixteen women’s teams and 18 men’s teams from across the West are here today through Saturday racing their hearts out. The goal: to qualify for the USCSA National Championship which takes place March 1-7.

Today, the women’s teams battled it out in a Giant Slalom on Alpine. Tomorrow, the men’s teams will have a GS race. Saturday, both men and women will hit the Slalom course, which will also be on Alpine.

As you can see, this event brings a whole different level of athleticism than our normal youth races.

The race teams tell us these are some of the best conditions they’ve seen at any venue all season long.

That’s been true for our recreational skiers the past few days, as well.

Slopes range from smooth, carvable sugar in the morning to soft, forgiving creamed corn in the afternoons.

As much as we’ve been enjoying the sunshine, we’re all ready for a change of atmospheric scenery. Right on cue, that change is headed our way tonight. The forecast is calling for an inch of fresh snow tonight and 1-3 inches tomorrow with a return to winter temperatures through the weekend. You can view the forecast here.

Just what we need to refresh our slopes and keep the spirit of winter alive in our mountain home.
