Resolve to Try Something New This Weekend
Did you make a New Years resolution this year? Research shows that more than 10% of us give up on our fitness resolutions by the third week in January. If your resolution has you in a rut, why not resolve to try something brand new this weekend to keep it fresh?
We’ve got a list of Four-And-A-Half Great Things to Do at Brundage this weekend, and a few of them will definitely keep your exercise program on track. Here’s the lowdown:
# 1. Take the ‘Vertical Challenge‘
Do you like the sense of accomplishment from knowing you skied hard ALL DAY? You’ll LOVE the feeling that comes from doing it all for a great cause.
We’re hosting our first Hope on the Slopes – Ski & Ride for a Cure event this Saturday. It’s not too late to register for the Vertical Challenge event as an individual or a team. (You can do it on-line here, or on-site tomorrow morning starting at 8:00 am on the third floor of the lodge). The idea is to compete for the most vertical feet, with BIG prizes for the most vertical and the best fundraising individuals and teams. Learn more.
These ‘orbiters’ will track your laps on the BlueBird Quad and Centennial Triple Chairs, so it really is a feat of fitness to win!
Proceeds raised support and fund research that leads to improved cancer treatments, patient care and services, and education.
Vertical challenge not your speed? You might consider the Card Run event. For a $5 donation, you can cruise the mountain collecting the best ‘poker’ hand possible. Just stop by the Hope on the Slopes booth in the base area to sign up.
# 2. Check out our new Snowshoe Trail
Conditions are perfect for your first foray on our new snowshoe trail. The trail is now clearly signed and marked. It takes off from the end of the upper parking lot.
From there, you can follow these orange trail markers around the 1 mile route.
With today’s snow conditions, one lap took about 30 minutes. When the snow is deep and powdery, I would suggest allowing an hour to do the loop.
In addition to the great cardio benefits, skiers and riders will appreciate the peek-a-boo views of some of our favorite ski runs.
Anyone who loves nature will appreciate the views of Goose Creek Canyon.
Snowshoe rentals are available in the Fall Lines Shop in the main lodge. Rates are available here.
# 3. Slide through the Bear Progression Park
Our second terrain park is now built and ready for riders! The Bear Progression park is on the Bear run (accessible from the Bear Chair). It features smaller, traditional features built to help aspiring freestylers build their skills and learn about smart style. After warming up here, jibbers can head to our larger Deadwood Shred Park. # 4. Take a FREE Mountain Tour
If you are new to Brundage or would like to know more about the layout of the mountain, we’d love to have you join us for one of our FREE mountain tours. Look for this sign near the base of the BlueBird Quad – our mountain ambassadors will gather up a group and head out promptly at 11 am.
The tours are offered every Saturday now through the end of March and every day the week of President’s Weekend (Feb 14-21) and our local Spring Break (March 23-27).
#4 and-a-half: Try our NEW Easy Street Ticket Kiosk
This may not help keep you fit, but it will take some of the hassle out of your morning routine to save your energy for more exciting pursuits. In case you missed it last weekend, we are now selling lift tickets at the bottom of Easy Street during our busier times. The Easy Street Kiosk will be open every Saturday through the end of February with bonus days on Sunday, February 15 and Monday, February 16.
