Be Prepared for Winter Driving
It happens every year. The snow starts piling up, and skiers and boarders let their stoke get the best of them and forget the basics of winter driving. Don’t let your thirst for powder derail your next visit before you even get here. Here are some overall travel reminders and updates on the state of our road this year:
- Please remember, the Goose Lake Road construction project is not entirely finished. Drivers can already take advantage of improved sight lines and one of the trickiest corners has been eliminated. However, the new, permanent road surface will not be installed until early next summer, so the road still has some sharp curves and narrow stretches to contend with.
2. Please take it slow while you familiarize yourself with the changes to the road. Most of it seems so familiar that it’s easy to get caught off guard when you suddenly come across a section that has changed. Caution is your friend.
3. Carry chains and practice installing them. By the time you need them, it will be too late to learn how without a LOT of heartache.
4. Allow extra travel time for holidays and when roadways are covered with snow and ice. (And filled with less-experienced winter drivers).
5. Be cautious and slow down around curves, at intersections and shady spots.
6. Allow extra room between you and the vehicle in front of you. Remember, the larger the vehicle, the longer the stopping distance.
