Introducing: Triple Play Beginner Skills Course

06/01/15

IMG_04281We are excited to announce that this year Brundage will be offering a beginner mountain biking skills course! Named for its various sections, Triple Play will offer a variety of low-key features for new bikers to become more comfortable on the trails. The course is free, so whether you are just learning, or brushing up on old skills, ride as many times as you need to in order to feel comfortable before heading up the lift to our larger trails.

If you are not previously familiar with mountain biking, or haven’t had the chance to be on your bike in awhile, starting at the summit and riding all the way down to the lodge can be a little intimidating. Our team wanted to focus on adding a course that gave individuals an environment with features that ease bikers from the feel of the greenbelt into our already established trails, such as Elk Trail and Growler. Triple Play is exactly this, a perfect place to learn and practice the skills needed on our other, steeper trails.IMG_04561

The first portion of the course, starting just up the road from Blue Bird chairlift, has quite a few low-key features.

The trail boasts several wide bank turns to practice centering your gravity and leaning with your bike around turns. The trail also features a portion of rollers perfect for getting used to the elevation changes mountain biking has to offer. The trail starts in heavy trees, but don’t let it fool you – it’s very wide and offers plenty of room for beginners.IMG_04201

The lower portion of the course (located next to Easy Street) offers a step up in skill, with sharper turns and more rugged terrain. These trails are still very user friendly and are a perfect segue to heading up the chairlift and riding down some of our easier “green” trails. As mentioned, all of the trails offered in the skills course are free with no age constraints, and no limit of usage.

Still not quite comfortable with the idea of being on a mountain bike? We will be offering lessons on Thursdays for those of you who would prefer some professional pointers. Please contact Michael Hayes at [email protected] for lesson schedules, pricing and reservations.  Don’t have a mountain bike? Not to fear! We also rent out bikes, helmets, and additional equipment in the rental shop located underneath Smoky’s in the lodge. The skills course will be open on June 20th for our Grand Opening, and will stay open all summer season. You don’t have to be an expert mountain biker to have fun at Brundage so come check it out!
