Letter from the General Manager: Snowvember Edition
Hello, friends and snow lovers –
What a way to start November! We’ve seen fresh snow on the mountain five out of ten days so far this month, and that has EVERYONE extra excited for the season to begin. November is always a busy month on the mountain, and with so many improvement projects going on this year, our team is busier than ever. Our mountain crews are working to prep equipment and the slopes. Additionally, construction crews are working through these early-season storms to finish up our new Ski Patrol building and a number of other projects in time for our projected opening day of Friday, November 25. Hiring and onboarding of employees is underway, and we’re excited to be able to share the news that ALL of our food and beverage venues will be back to full operation this season. As always, we want to be open and welcome our guests back to the mountain as soon as it’s safe to do so. This early November storm cycle has been exciting, but we still need more snow to be able to open. As we like to say, there is no “magic number” of inches needed to build a proper base. A lot depends on the moisture content of the snow, temperatures and where wind deposits snow as the storms move through. The forecast for the next 7-10 days doesn’t show much potential for snowfall, but it does have some nice cool temperatures. That will help us make some snow in the base area and begin the process of ‘track packing’ the slopes with our groomers to build a sturdy base in anticipation of the next storm cycle. It should come as no surprise that we need to be able to provide patrol services to be able to open, and the contractors finishing up the construction on the new Patrol building are as eager as we are to get Patrol moved in and set up for success. We haven’t ruled out opening before November 25, but in the spirit of full transparency, that is our most likely scenario for Opening Day for the Winter 2022-23 season. Please rest assured that all hands are on deck getting the resort ready for another incredible ski and snowboard season. We still have a lot of winter positions to fill on Team Brundage, so if you know anyone looking for work, please send them our way. Employees get a free season pass along with other resort benefits, and we have convenient and affordable employee housing available for full time employees. Keep those snow dances going and we hope to see you very soon on the Best Snow in Idaho!
