Game Changer: Brundage Mountain Opens 100% of Terrain As Winter Storms Drop Two Feet of Fresh Snow
Snow dances turned into happy dances at Brundage Mountain today, after a four-day snowstorm allowed the Brundage team to open the resort’s fabled Hidden Valley zone.
Brundage Mountain now has 100 percent of its terrain open. Winter storms have dropped between 21 and 26 inches of fresh snow across the mountain this week, boosting the snowpack and spreading powder grins across the slopes.
Brundage has a current snow depth of 38” in the base area with 60 inches at the Lakeview snow marker (the base area measurement is taken at an elevation of 6,000 feet, the Lakeview marker is at approximately 7,000 feet elevation). Lakeview has seen a total of 108” of snowfall this season and the base area has received 84” of season snowfall.
“The snow this week has truly been a game changer for the slopes,” says Brundage Mountain General Manager, Ken Rider. “Our team overcame incredible challenges to open terrain safely during less-than-ideal conditions earlier in the season, so this milestone feels even more meaningful this year.”
100% Open – Full Grooming Rotation
In addition to having 100 percent of its terrain zones, chairlifts and all major runs open, the new snow means grooming operations have expanded to cover all regularly groomed terrain.
Brundage Mountain, which has 1,920 acres of lift-accessed terrain and 1,921 feet of vertical, had all chairlifts open since December 28th, but the Hidden Valley zone required extra snowfall – and extra work – before it could open this year.
“I’m incredibly proud of the dedication and hard work of our whole operations team—with extra thanks to our slope maintenance and patrol managers,” said Director of Mountain Operations, Dustin Johnson. “Opening the entire mountain in such a short window is a massive undertaking. Between preparing terrain and clearing hundreds of fallen trees from groomed runs alone, this has been one of the most demanding and labor-intensive season starts I’ve experienced in my 30-year career.”
Hidden Valley is Brundage Mountain’s experts-only area that features a wide range of natural terrain types. It was the final piece of terrain to open at Brundage. Snow remains in the forecast through tomorrow night.
Brundage Snow Report
Skiers and snowboarders should be aware that early season conditions exist across the mountain, and Brundage is warning guests to proceed with extra caution off the groomed runs.
“There are trees down in places you wouldn’t expect,” says Rider. “So we’re asking guests be extra alert as they spread out to enjoy the full mountain experience.”
