Brundage Owners Proudly Present Award for New Winter Carnival Event

02/06/18

Brundage Mountain is proud to be a long-time supporter of McCall’s Winter Carnival and Winter sports of all kinds. This year, the McCall Ultra Sled Dog Challenge was added to the Winter Carnival event schedule, bringing back a sport near and dear to the hearts of Brundage Mountain’s owners.

Judd and Diane DeBoer (Warren Brown’s daughter) presented the Warren Brown Summit Award for Dog Care Excellence during the Ultra Sled Dog Challenge awards ceremony this week. The winner was Laurie Warren, of Council, (pictured, right) who placed fourth in the competition. View Musher Profiles here.

“We’re happy to see Dog Sled races return to McCall where they were popular almost 100 years ago,” said the DeBoers, pictured below.

Warren Brown, founder of Brundage Mountain, competed locally in dog sled races at age 13 and on the national stage at 14. That race was in Ashton, Idaho at the foot of the Tetons.  To get clear across the state, his Dad, Carl Brown, rented a Boxcar from Union Pacific and shipped Warren, his dogs, and provisions to the race and back.  He took 2nd place and won $750, a lot of money in that day.

The Warren Brown Summit Award goes to a musher who exemplifies the spirit of the boy, the town, and always….the dogs. Congratulations to Laurie Warren and all those who went to great effort to launch this wonderful event. You can learn more about the McCall Ultra Sled Dog Challenge here.
