Who Would Have Thought?

04/30/10

It’s typical, right?  The season winds down and the spring days of April sort of lull you into compliance.  No new snow?  No problem, you say.  It’s all good, you say.  Mountain biking is just around the corner and who needs skiing, anyway.  Right?  WRONG!!

The Brundage Effect is at play again in our little neck of the woods.  Since Tuesday night we’ve recorded over a foot of new snow at the base.  And just to make sure that tricks weren’t being played on our eyes, a few lucky folks crammed into a Snow Cat early Thursday afternoon to ‘product test’ the snow at the top of the hill.  We just had to make sure that it was actually snowing at the top of the mountain.  Um…just between you and me, it was snowing at the top.

Now, I’m no Einstein, but when the snow reaches my knees I call that deep.  When I consider the fact that it was April 28th, I call it stupid deep.  Either way, it was a boat load of fun and we even have some pictures to prove it.

August’s dog even got into the act and sat on the chair at the top of the Bird like it was his own private couch.

The amazing thing is that Brundage will be open in May during a year that our season snowfall totals are a bit on the lean side.  Of course, if you were at the top of the hill Thursday you would not have noticed because I don’t think I ever hit bottom until coming out of Super Secret.  It’s one thing to be open in May when your season snow totals reach 428 inches, like in 07-08.  It’s entirely different when you haven’t even reached 250 inches of total snowfall and you’re skiing in May.  That is A-May-Zing!

Bottom line…the Best Snow In Idaho™ is at it again.  Come up to the mountain on Saturday and ski in May.  Come have a great time so that you can brag to all your friends who stayed home to plant their gardens.  Who knows…you could be skiing the April snow that will feed their May flowers.
