Sneak Peek: Fall is Trail Building Season!
We’re days away from the official start of “Fall”, and while these chilly mornings have many of us thinking of WINTER, the Brundage Mountain Trail Crew is keeping their razor-sharp focus on summertime fun. Fall is the ideal time to build mountain bike trails, and our crew’s goal is build SIX MILES of new trail before the snow falls.
Approximately three miles of trail is going in around the base area. This cross-country loop is sure to be a draw for beginner riders and has one additional perk: it can open much earlier than the downhill trails because this lower elevation thaws out and dries out first.
This trail features winding loops and a gentle grade – a perfect warm up for the day or perfect skill-builder for those newer to the sport.
An additional three miles of trail is under construction in the Lakeview area. This trail winds through some of the most stunningly scenic terrain on the mountain. This section of new trail is also slated to be a cross-country, multi-use trail so bikers and hikers of all types will be able to enjoy it.
In addition to adding mileage and fresh thrills to our summer playground, these new sections of trail will connect some of our existing trails to make them more accessible.
A full build-out may take another season, but our trail crew is pushing hard to maximize the fall weather window for as long as Mother Nature will allow.
More work will happen next Spring, but as seasoned riders know, there’s nothing better for a new trail than to spend the Winter ‘seasoning’ under a blanket of thick white snow.
