Prayers Submitted & Fingers Crossed
Nearly a hundred enthusiastic fans showed up this weekend for our Pray for Powder Party. It featured the premiere of MSP’s Attack of La Nina and some good-hearted fun.
With La Nina rumored to return this season, hopes were high. Local shops like Gravity Sports and Hometown Sports offered sacrifices in the form of prizes for the crowd. Even sponsors like Brundage Mountain and Helly Hanson pitched in.
There was no official costume contest, but that didn’t stop some people from fully embracing the spirit of winters past.
As the crowd oooooh-ed and aaaaah-ed over last year’s powder bounty, unforecast snow DID start fluttering down.
Those surprise snowflakes lifted spirits even further.
Despite these measures, the big question remains: When are we going to open? As regular readers of this blog are no doubt aware, Brundage Mountain relies on 100% natural snowfall. That means Mother Nature, or Old Man Winter, or maybe Miss La Nina herself will be determining our opening day. (Check her out below).
Here’s where we stand. We have about 14″ of snow blanketing the base area and about 20″ of wind-packed snow up on the summit. There is no ‘magic number’ of inches, BUT, those eyeing the snow cam and the forecast should know that we need at least a foot more. The top is pretty wind-chapped and ‘boney’…meaning there are exposed rocks where we need them to be covered.
So, the best answer to the big question of “WHEN?”….lies in the forecast. You can view the latest forecast here.
I know everyone who joined us at the party this weekend has already been saying their Powder Prayers and doing their best Snow Dances. But apparently, we could use some help. So how ’bout it? What are you willing to sacrifice to make it snow?
