Opening Day is Here! Three Lifts Set to Operate, Snow in the Forecast
Brundage Mountain plans to open for the season Friday, December 19. This will be a partial opening, with the Blue Bird Quad, Lakeview Lift and Easy Street chairlifts scheduled to open.
The BlueBird Quad and Easy Street are set to run from 9:30 – 4:30. The Lakeview lift will run from 9:40 – 3:30 pm.
Four inches of new snow has fallen on Brundage Mountain in the last 48 hours, with eight inches of new snow since Saturday. The base depth measures 10-12 inches but there is a plentiful 36+ inches of snow on the summit.
“Last week, we struggled with some warm temperatures on the lower mountain, and because of that, we will not be able to open the Bear Chair or the lower portion of some of our all-mountain runs for opening day,” said resort spokesperson, April Whitney. “All runs north of the Blue Bird Quad will be closed on Friday.”
In spite of those closures, skiing is expected to be excellent on upper slopes and in the Lakeview Bowl. Upper mountain snow is dry and fluffy and coverage is good on the upper third of the mountain.
In contrast, early season conditions exist on the lower half of the mountain. Visitors will see more closures than normal and are asked to obey those closures for their own safety and the safety of the Brundage Mountain staff.
“Terrain for beginners will, unfortunately, be limited,” said Whitney. “We have some significant snow in the forecast and will open more terrain as soon as it’s safe and feasible to do so.”
The forecast is looking extremely favorable, with snow expected to accumulate Friday morning through Sunday night. Signficant accumulation is expected Saturday night and Sunday. View the MidMountain Forecast here.
“We want our skiers and riders to know that we are working hard to open as much terrain as we possibly can, as soon as we possibly can,” Whitney added.
All regular mountain services will be available starting Friday, with the exception of our full-service restaurant. Smoky’s Bar & Grill is expected to open Saturday. Beer & Wine is always available at the SideStash Cafe on the third floor, and the Main Street Market and Eatery (3rd floor) will be open every day through the holiday season.
Brundage plans to operate seven days a week starting Friday. Lift tickets will be discounted for Opening Weekend only.
