Winter Games WILL Go On!

12/16/08

Treasure Valley and Central Idaho skiers WILL be able to compete in their favorite winter events, thanks to a brand new partnership between Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area and Brundage Mountain.

The two ski areas have proudly supported the Winter Games of Idaho ever since the event was created in 1990.  Organizers of the games announced last month that they would not be able to hold the traditional state-wide events this season, due to an economic downturn affecting sponsorship.

But Brundage and Bogus didn’t want to give up even one year of competition, so they’ve hatched a plan to offer their own version of the games this year.

“Naturally, it’s our hope that the Winter Games of Idaho will be back in full force next season,” said Brundage spokesperson April Russell. “In the meantime, we’re working together to offer all of the same events our guests have grown to love at both Brundage and Bogus Basin and keep the spirit alive.”

The Bogus Basin Winter Games will include: (Slopestyle on February 14th ; VertiGals Recreational Giant Slalom (ski and snowboard) for Women ages 18+  on Wednesday, February 25th at 10:30am; Primetimers Giant Slalom for ages 50+ on Wednesday, February 25th starting at 1pm; and the Telemark Experience Night Races on Thursday, February 26th at 6:30pm.  Information regarding the Bogus Basin events and registration forms at www.bogusbasin.org

The Brundage Mountain Winter Games will be held Saturday, February 7 and Sunday, February 8. Saturday events include: Children & Juniors Recreational Alpine Giant Slalom (3-18 year olds), Mitey Mite Giant Slalom, Physically Challenged Giant Slalom. Sunday events include: Adult Recreational Giant Slalom, Mitey Mite Slalom, Physically Challenged Slalom.

“We want to thank the Bogus Basin Ski Racing Alliance, the Brundage Ski Racing Team and Sterling Savings and Loan for stepping up with financial and volunteer support to keep this family event alive this season at both areas,” said Gretchen Anderson, Bogus Basin spokeswoman.

Thanks to the support of Sterling Savings and Loan, top finishers in each event at Brundage Mountain will receive medals just like in years past. Racers at the Bogus Basin events will experience the same level of competition as in the past, along with medals and prizes for top finishers.

“Whether you’re going for the gold or just hoping to make it through the gates without falling, racing and competition are fun aspects to winter recreation that families at Brundage and Bogus Basin have enjoyed for years,” said Bogus Basin Mountain Events Director, JJ McLeod. “We’re really pleased to collaborate with our friends at Brundage Mountain to keep the tradition going.”
