Fresh Snow Pushes Brundage Mountain Closer to Opening

11/16/10

Ski resort is eager to start 50th Season, employ winter workforce

McCall, ID – Brundage Mountain Resort is counting the inches in anticipation of its 50th season of winter operations. As always, Brundage Mountain will open as soon as it gets enough snow to properly groom the slopes.

Brundage has received 10” of fresh snow this week, and a total of 22” of snowfall so far this season. That snow has compacted and settled into a base that is 4” deep in the base area and 12” deep on the summit. Brundage Mountain relies on nature to provide all of the Best Snow in IdahoTM.

“There is no ‘magic number’ of inches,” said resort spokesperson, April Russell. “We generally need 18 inches of packed snow in the base and at least 24 inches on the summit. Right now, we have less than half that amount, but we are encouraged by the wintery forecast for the coming week.”

“We are ready to open as soon as the snow comes,” added Russell.

The last time Brundage Mountain was open in time for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend was in 2005. Historically, the resort’s average opening day is December 1.

“We are eager to get this season started not just because it’s our 50th and we have so many special events planned, but also because we’d love to be able to put our seasonal employees to work as soon as possible,” said Russell.

Brundage Mountain employees between 75 and 120 seasonal employees each year, in addition to approximately 25 people who work year-round.

In addition to its pre-season “50 Days of Deals” event,  Brundage is throwing a giant holiday party to commemorate its 50th Season. The “Light Up the Night” party is free and will feature live music, a torchlight parade and fireworks show on Wednesday, December 29th.
