Is it here to stay?

10/27/09

102709.1What a great feeling to arrive at the mountain this morning with two inches of snow on the ground, and more coming down today! The big question on everyone’s mind: will it stick around? Only time will tell – but in the meantime, I thought you might like a look at what the first two inches does to our beautiful mountain.

102709.2

Two inches is enough to make the roads nice and slick – and remind us to take it REALLY SLOW around the corners.

102709.3

Two inches is enough to frost the Tamarack trees, which are a gorgeous shade of gold right now.

102709.4

Two inches is enough to turn the base-area brush white…

102709.5…and cover the grass in the base area. But two inches is not quite enough to cover the brush on the slopes. Generally speaking, we need 18 – 24 inches of packed snow in the base area to open, and 24- 36 up on top. So let’s do our best snow dances and hope that this two inches is the beginning of more to come!
