First Major Snowfall of 08.09

11/04/08

Hi Everyone –

I just wanted to share a couple photos of the first major snowfall this year at Brundage Mountain. We got a couple inches yesterday, THEN, at least 7 inches overnight! (Our official measurements are made at the summit, in case you are curious).

This is my favorite. I just LOVE waking up in the morning and seeing the snowcam on my home computer.

Then, (right after I voted, that is)…I made my way up toward Brundage Mountain, passing Little Ski Hill on the left.

It’s sure been a while since I’ve driven in the snow, luckily, the highway crews were on top of the plowing on Highway 55.  Heading up Goose Lake Road toward Brundage, I was surprised to see so much snow on the road. Our maintenance team was out with the plows just as the snow started to get DEEP. In the photo below, you can see the difference between the plowed side and the slippery side.

Here are some shots from the base area…

And this is from the top of the Bear Chair. This is one of our new webcam views, which will be added to our webcam page sometime this week.

Seeing all this lovely snow is probably making you wonder, “when will they open?”. Here’s the scoop on that, as best I can explain. It normally takes at least 2 1/2 feet of snow in the base area before we can get the groomers on the hill to begin prepping the slopes. (Sometimes, it takes more than that depending on the quality of the snow). It takes a few days to ‘track pack’ the slopes before we can lay down that lovely corduroy. So, as you can tell, we are still a bit away from opening day, so keep your fingers crossed and keep praying for snow!
