Drop Me a Line...

So by now you’ve probably figured out that this blog is written by people who spend a LOT of their time skiing Brundage Mountain. We are admittedly biased, with an almost neurotic affection for this particular mountain and the blessed ice crystals that magically coat its slopes each winter.

SO – I thought it might be a refreshing change to hear from some unbiased,  seasoned ski travelers who visited Brundage Mountain for the first time ever this week.

They’ve skied all over the country and at international destinations, too, writing for a wide audience about their experiences. So I asked them to ‘drop a few lines’ on me about their impressions of Brundage, shortly after we skied one of my favorite runs, Dropline.

Here is Bob, kicking up a little fluff while noticing that Brundage skis like “a big mountain”. He had no idea of the “width, breadth and depth” of this place.

(As it turns out, Brundage is not as well known as most ‘big’ resorts, so ski journalists are often surprised to find such a wide variety and quality of terrain in a place they’ve barely heard of.)

At the same time, Bob’s travel buddy Martin (on the right, coming down the bottom of Dropline) expressed his surprise at how Brundage felt like “a comfortable shoe”, adding that “the great conditions and great snow make it so you can let your guard down.” He also felt Brundage had a unique personality, which set it apart from other more ‘generic’ resorts he’s visited.

Bob and Martin got to ski here on two very different days. Monday, they skied on 7″ of fresh powder. Today, we had an inch of new snow, but it was of the soft-creamy variety rather than the fluffy-powdery kind.

Bob and Martin are from the East Coast, so naturally, they thought our conditions were exceptionally good both days.  Imagine how blown away they would have been if they could have seen the view….

Oh well, maybe it’s for the best. Part of that ‘personality’ is that you get something different every time you visit Brundage. And those of us who ski here the most, get to know it the best.  — April
