MTN Sports School News: New Director, New Programs, Same Brundage Excellence

Brundage Mountain’s 65th season is shaping up to be an exciting one for skiers and riders looking to build skills, explore new terrain, and boost confidence on the snow. Leading the charge: a familiar face. Longtime Brundage instructor and multi-department supervisor Zach Miller has stepped into the role of MTN Sports School Director, bringing years of on-mountain experience, deep local knowledge, and an infectious enthusiasm for helping guests discover their best day on the mountain.
Zach grew up skiing at Brundage, worked in a range of winter operations roles, and is now stepping up to lead the very school that helped shape his own lifelong love of the sport. “Brundage has always been a place where people learn to ski with confidence,” says Miller. “I’m excited to build on that tradition and introduce some programs that really support families, beginners, and anyone who wants to take that next step.”
What’s New at the MTN Sports School This Season
This winter, the MTN Sports School is bringing back and refreshing a pair of highly requested programs—alongside a renewed push to encourage guests to spend a half day or full day with an instructor for maximum value.
Mountain Explorers Returns
One of the most anticipated additions is the return of Mountain Explorers, a full-service youth program designed to make family ski days smoother from the very start. This program is available for ages 3 – 6 (skiers only) and skiers AND snowboarders ages 7-12.
This revamped program includes:
-
Early student drop-off
-
Half-day group lesson
-
Gear rentals
-
Lunch
-
Day ticket
“Bringing back Mountain Explorers is huge for me,” says Miller. “Parents can drop their child off, catch first chair, and know their kid is going to have a safe, fun, exciting day exploring Brundage. It supports the family-friendly environment that is foundational to this mountain.”
Group Lessons Make a Comeback
Group lessons for teens (13–17) and adults (18+) are tailored for first-timers through early-intermediate skiers. Lessons are capped at an 8:1 student-to-instructor ratio, with a target of 5:1 whenever possible.
“Our three-hour group lessons offer an economical way to learn in a fun, supportive setting,” says Miller. “That extra time really matters—it allows students to practice, progress, and finish the lesson feeling more confident than when they started.”
These sessions are ideal for guests who want to build foundational skills, learn alongside friends and family, or sample structured instruction before advancing to private lessons.
Tiny Tracks: A Premium One-on-One Experience
The beloved Tiny Tracks lessons for ages 3–6 are still available as a premium, one-on-one experience. Parents may tag along on green terrain if they’re comfortable skiing or riding, creating an immersive, confidence-building introduction to the sport.
Consider Half-Day and Full-Day Lessons for All Levels
The MTN Sports School is also encouraging guests to take a longer lesson this season. Half-day and full-day sessions give students more time for guided practice—turning new skills into habits and helping skiers and riders feel more at ease on varied terrain.
“A longer lesson lets us introduce new concepts, then really reinforce them,” says Miller. “It’s one of the best values in the school because people leave feeling capable, confident, and ready to keep exploring.”

A Season Designed for Skill-Building and Exploration
With Zach’s leadership and a refreshed lineup of programs, the MTN Sports School is focused on what makes Brundage special: welcoming instruction, small-town mountain hospitality, and a genuine desire to help every guest grow their skills and love for the sport.
“These programs really showcase what Brundage is all about,” says Miller. “We want people to feel supported, encouraged, and excited to come back for more.”
