Our (Almost) Olympic Village!
This may be proof that I’ve been staying up far too late, watching far too much Olympic coverage, but today, I can’t escape the feeling that Brundage Mountain is the ‘parallel universe’ to the Olympic Games!
It could be the torch burning on a podium right outside the lodge…
Or – the line of perfectly waxed race skis beneath the Blue Bird Quad…
Or – the graceful bodies flung impossibly high into the air…
So what’s going on? Call it a perfect storm of seemingly-unrelated events.
You see, we’re hosting a women’s Super G event, which seems even more exciting than usual after watching Lindsey Vonn and Julia Mancuso rock the downhill last night.
These skilled young women (aged 13-18) take their racing seriously, as you can see.
Add to that, the expansion, yet again, or our terrain park.
We may not have a super-pipe worthy of Shawn White’s heroics, but our jumps can certainly launch a good rider way into the sky (this guy is going SO BIG, it looks like he’s using Granite Mountain for a rail-slide)…
And you can see where one of our new features on Lower Rodeo would bring the word super ‘pipe’ to mind…
It doesn’t hurt that the slopes are fiercely fast and fun today…
As I bombed down Main Street, I was trying to decide if I was more a Lindsey type or a Julia…(that’s not me in the picture, by the way)…
While I was clearly kidding myself, (stayed up too late watching the games) I think some of these young speedsters and high-fliers really do have a shot at greatness.
As for me, well, it doesn’t hurt to dream. And it probably wouldn’t hurt to get a little more sleep. Maybe that would shake that Olympic theme song out of my head.
