Snowmobile FAQ

HOW OLD DO I NEED TO BE TO RENT OR DRIVE A SNOWMOBILE?

18+ with a valid drivers license.

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

Warm, waterproof sled/ski/snowboard gear. Including: snow boots and winter gloves, a base layer, a pair of ski/snowboard socks, a mid-layer (sweater, sweatshirt, or fleece), and waterproof and windproof outer layers. Helmets are required and provided on every trip, as well as pants, jackets, and avalanche beacons.

WHAT’S INCLUDED WITH THE TOURS?

Jackets, pants, helmets, and avalanche beacons for all riders. There is one shovel per sled. Half-day tours include a snack, and full-day tours include a lunch.

WILL RIDING INSTRUCTIONS BE PROVIDED?

Yes. We have knowledgeable guides who will give an orientation and instruction prior to your ride. They will offer assistance when needed. Riding a snowmobile for the first time may seem a bit intimidating, but it doesn’t take long to get comfortable and have a great time.

WILL WE BE ALLOWED TO RIDE OFF TRAIL?

Yes. There will be plenty of opportunities to take advantage of off trail riding.

DO YOU RECOMMEND RIDING DOUBLE OR SINGLE?

The choice to ride single or double depends on the rider’s age and level of confidence in operating a snowmobile. Participants under the age of 18 must ride as a passenger. Combined driver + passenger weight must be less than 300 lbs per manufacturer’s instructions. Most riders, even beginners, prefer riding single over double because it’s more comfortable and easier to maneuver.

HOW EARLY SHOULD WE ARRIVE?

It’s a good idea to arrive 15 minutes before your trip time to check in at at the West Lot.

SHOULD WE TIP THE GUIDE?

Yes. It’s standard practice to tip your guide(s), as with any other service business. Suggested minimum tip is $50 per rider or 10% of the entire trip. Cash is preferred, but cards or alternative methods (Venmo, PayPal, etc.) are also acceptable.

IS PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR SNOWMOBILING?

No, prior experience is not required. Our first priority is your safety. Our guides are certified in CPR, First Aid and Avalanche Awareness. We will provide an equipment overview and safety orientation prior to riding. For non-guided snowmobile rentals, we recommend riders have some prior experience.

IF WE’RE RENTING, WHERE CAN WE TAKE THE SNOWMOBILES?

There is a trail system adjacent to Brundage Mountain that you can explore. Snowmobiles cannot be loaded onto any vehicle or trailer and transported off-site. Renters must ride the snowmobiles straight from the Brundage Mountain Resort pickup point and return them to the same place.

WHAT IF WE BRING OUR RENTAL SLEDS BACK LATE?

Each late rider will be issued a $25 late fee for every 15 minutes that they are late. The minimum recovery fee is $300

WHAT IF THE SNOWMOBILE IS DAMAGED DURING THE TOUR?

The driver assumes all financial responsibility for any damages to the machine. Damages can range from small repairs (such as a cracked mirror) to the total cost of the snowmobile (approximately $14,000).  Prior to tour departure, guests are required to sign an “Equipment Rental Contract” assuming liability for the risk of loss or damage to the equipment rented.
