Backcountry Boot Camp

Ages: 12-18

Location: Brundage Mountain

This experiential, four-day camp is perfect for the upper-intermediate to advanced skier or snowboarder who is interested in expanding their riding possibilities and venturing out of ski area boundaries. Avalanche potential exists on all uncontrolled terrain and being equipped with the basic knowledge to plan and ride safely is an essential tool for any rider to start their year with.

Soft fresh powder in meadow bowlDuring this course, skiers and snowboarders are taught essential backcountry basics from trained, experienced MWSC coaches and local professionals from Payette Powder Guides and Payette Avalanche Center. Campers will learn to assess avalanche potential, properly use rescue equipment, rescue a buried partner, and travel safely in the backcountry. Most importantly, riders learn by doing though a hands-on approach in a small group of their peers. Backcountry Bootcamp is the perfect way to kick off the start to a fun, safe ski season!

Advance registration for general public now open. Automatic registration for camp is included for all participants in the Big Mountain Freeride, seasonal programs.

Athlete Requirements: Upper-intermediate to advanced skiers & riders

Gear: Pack, shovel, probe, beacon, touring ability (skins, snowshoes) – A limited amount of equipment will be available for use.

Time: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Location: Brundage Mountain Resort

Cost: $220 for 4-day camp
