To Find Hero Powder, Be a Powder Hero

02/18/11

Statistically speaking, this is not our best day. We ONLY got 3″ of fresh snow overnight. Yesterday, we had 5, the day before, 11.

Don’t get me wrong, those days were EPIC all on their own.

But today, we got the cumulative effect of ALL that snow, manifesting itself into what I like to call “Hero Powder”.

You know what it is, the kind that cushions your every move, that simply won’t allow you to make a mistake. (Or at least doesn’t punish you for your mistakes.)

People always ask me where to find those sweet stashes. But it’s not so much where you search that makes you a powder hero, it’s how you approach the challenge that makes a difference.

My first piece of advice:

1. To be a hero, you must believe you’re a hero.

With that, comes dressing for the part. But the kind of super hero uniform I’m about to recommend may surprise you, because it’s all about attitude, and SOUL.

I hear more whining from people in fancy suits with overpriced powder skis than I ever hear from people like this SUPERHERO…so rock that sleeveless vest when it’s 15 degrees, if you must, and click in to your sweet Rossi straight skis…and…

2. Use the Force

That’s right. Don’t overthink it. Sometimes the best fresh lines are right next to you.

You might not be surprised to see a stash like this…

But are you surprised to see people skiing a nearby groomed run in the background?

We also managed to hunt down these fabulously fresh lines…

Right under the chairlift.

There’s plenty of super ‘hero powder’ out there…

So if that’s what you’re after, slow down for a half-second and use the force.

The hero powder may be right under your nose…or in this case, your toes.
