SOLD OUT: Avalanche Awareness Class with Friends of Payette Avalanche Center

This class is a brief introduction to snow safety, and will help you to travel and evaluate avalanche terrain in the West Central Mountains.

You will learn the basics of playing in avalanche terrain. Participants will be introduced to the basics in avalanche education including how to use your safety gear, an intro to snow science and safe travel in avalanche terrain.

Cost: $10.00 Donation to Friends of the Payette Avalanche Center. Class is limited to 30.

Tentative Class Schedule:                                                                                                            

9:00-9:30 Introductions and coffee in Upper Lot Pub

9:30-11:00 Classroom Session

11:00-11:45 Lunch

12:00-4:00 Load lifts after lunch for field session. During the field session we will practice the basics of snow analysis, how to travel safely in avalanche terrain and how to find your friend if things to go wrong!

Day will end around 4:00, when we’ll head up to the Upper Lot for a beverage and a recap of the day!

What to Bring: Bring a sack lunch, snacks and water, beacon, probe, shovel, gear to be outside for the afternoon.
