At night I dream of skiing powder.  I dream of soft deep days that imprint a smile on my face for weeks.  But when my alarm sounds and I get out of bed, I am greeted by something much, much different than my dreams.  Thick, murky, dreary fog.  The colors from my dream fade into shades of gray.

The drive to the mountain is choked by the layer of fog, making it hard to see more than a couple of car lengths ahead.  But part way through the ascent, something magical happens. The beautiful blue sky flows over you.  That dreary feeling washes away and you feel as if you went back to sleep and re-entered your dream.  Even if it is not powder skiing, cruising groomers in the sunshine holds its own set of soul soothing traits.

We are riding high above the gloomy conditions in the lower valleys and we can’t help but feel like we are the lucky ones.  Blessed by the true splendor that is the mountains, we realize that there is no where on Earth we would rather be at this moment.  Except maybe this exact same spot on a 12 inch, 20 degree powder day.
